Rediscover Your Complete, Beautiful Smile with Natural-looking Dental Bridges

Did you know the absence of even one tooth can disrupt the aesthetics, function, and harmony of your entire smile? A missing tooth (teeth) can cause speech impediments, diminished chewing ability, and a dip in self-confidence. What’s more, tooth loss can result in uneven tooth wear of the remaining teeth and health complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism.

Good news! You don’t have to face life without teeth. Dental bridges from JSP Dental in Trenton, Michigan, offer multiple solutions beyond aesthetics to restore your confidence, oral function, and quality of life.

Dental bridges 101

A dental bridge is an excellent tooth replacement if you don’t want to wear a denture or undergo oral surgery. This dental prosthetic consists of one or more artificial teeth supported with crowns placed on the nearby teeth (abutment teeth).

In short, a bridge consists of three parts:

  • The artificial teeth (pontic) or replacement teeth
  • Abutment teeth to the right of the gap
  • Abutment teeth to the left of the gap

If you don’t have healthy teeth, you can still benefit from a bridge by using dental implants. Implant-supported bridges are even preferable because they’re secured firmly in the jawbone and don’t involve altering otherwise healthy teeth.

What to expect from dental bridge treatment

A traditional bridge requires at least two dental appointments, with much of the “magic” happening on the first visit. After your dentist gives you a clean bill of health to go ahead with a bridge, we prepare your teeth by shaving down the abutment teeth. This process is vital to create space for crowns that adequately support the bridge. After teeth preparation, we take impressions of your teeth to make molds used by our partner lab to fabricate your restoration.

Since manufacturing your crowns and bridge takes 2-3 weeks, we’ll send you home with temporaries to protect your prepped teeth. When your restorations are ready, you’ll book another appointment with our team for placement. The second visit is quick. After removing your provisional restorations, we’ll clean your teeth and try the fit of your permanent crowns and bridge. We may make a few adjustments before using permanent adhesive to bond your restoration to your teeth.

Dental Bridges

A bridge is a non-surgical way to replace one or many teeth. A bridge uses the adjacent teeth as anchors to support the missing tooth or teeth. With today’s dental advancements, a bridge can be fabricated in a fairly short period of time, using a metal or nonmetal foundation. Don’t let that missing tooth affect the way you speak, eat, and smile. Bridges yield immediate results that last a lifetime. Ask your dentist what type of bridge may be right for you.
